Theodor Herzl, his Hebrew name Binyamin Zeev ב, born May 2, 1860 in Budapest (Austria-Hungary) and died July 3, 1904 at Edlach (now Austria), is a journalist and Austro-Hungarian writer.
Founder of the Zionist movement at the Basel Congress in 1897, he is the author of Der Judenstaat ("The State of JuifsN 1") in 1896 and founder of the Fund for Jewish settlement for the purchase of land in Palestine. It is one of the first to introduce the idea of a Jewish autonomous state.
