The Statue of Liberty was completed in 1884, depicts a woman draped in a toga and
holding a torch in the right hand.
On the shelves she holds in her left hand, we read in Roman numerals
"4 July 1776" American
Independence Day. At his feet
are the broken chains of slavery.
The original statue will be given to the United States officially July 4, 1884 in Paris, then disassembled into 350 parts to be loaded on board the frigate "Isere". Inaugurated by the
President Groover Cleveland
October 28, 1886, it will be declared a
historic monument October 15,
1924. The total cost of the
monument will amount to 800,000
Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi
will die October 5, 1904 in Paris. Alsace and
Lorraine again become French in 1918.
