His father was a man from Kansas, injured by slavery opponents after a speech during the events leading up to the Civil War. He ended up dying in 1857 the young William Frederick Cody became a soldier during the war. After an adventurous life , which began at fourteen, where he participated in the Indian Wars as a scout and development of the Pony Express, he became a legend thanks to writer Ned Buntline who related his adventures. Its name in Sioux Indian language was " Pahaska " ( translation : long hair).
