Bonjour, j'apprécierais beaucoup si quelqu'un pouvait m'aider à corriger mes fautes d'orthographe et de grammaire de ma présentation en anglais! Merci
I am going to present the notion: Myths and Heroes. Firstly I would like to give a definition of myth : it's an ancient story about gods, heroes and magic. A Hero is someone admired for his or her achievements, this person has got noble qualities and great courage. For the presentation, I will start by talking about a popular myth: "The American Dream" then about a typical American hero the "Self Made-man". After I am going to present differents heroes.
America historically owns the reputation of being the land of opportunities. Indeed generations of immigrants have fled to the United States to experience the freedom and the equality the American government offers. This reputation is due to the American Dream that is to say the belief that with hard work anyone can succeed based on his or her merits. But because of the countless stories of failure we heard, this idea of success is now seen as a myth. Nevertheless, according to some people the American Dream still exists it's the opinion of a mexican Alejandro from the document New Horizons. This document revealed that a lot of Mexicans cross the border in order to find better prospects in the United States. Finally according to the American Dream success is defined as the ability of becoming a 'Self Made-man'.
In a document named Self Made-man we learned that those men are typicals American folk heroes because they moved from rags to riches through hard work. They're real heroes because they succeed and reached the American Dream. Moreover they embody noble qualities like: hard work, strength, courage, will-power, discipline and optimism.
Speaking of heroes, I want to illustrate powerful heroes by a document named Modern Times, it's about Henry Ford who can be considered as a hero in so far as he was a visionary industrialist thus he revolutionized this field and became a pioneer of mass production. Also he helped building the world as we know it now. Another revelant document is Design your baby we learned about a scientist who cured a girl Molly thanks to a pre-implantation genetic diagnosis and thanks to her brother Adam who did a bone marrow transplant. To my mind scientists are also heroes and more precisely powerful heroes in so far as they saved lifes thanks to their innovatives technics in science.
But nowadays we can figure out that there are also many heroes who are common people. Already I spoke about Molly's brother who did a bone marrow transplant. I think Adam is a hero because he helped to cure his older sister. Like I said, we can tell of someone he's a hero thanks to his achievements and his courage which is corresponding to Adam. Moreover others heroes I am thinking about are the surrogates mothers we studied in a report named Surrogates mothers in India. Those women have to take care of a foreign couple's baby in order to get enough money to improve their family's living conditions. They are indisputably brave because it's a difficult task:
they are seen as prostitutes, they can become outcast and they can't stay in touch with the babies they carried. Those women are heroes because they are so determined to have a better life that they can overcome any difficulties and they make possible for infertile couple to have a baby.
Finally we can tell that heroes are not only people with power like industrialists or scientists but also common people who can achieve extraordinary things. We can find them everywhere it can be your sibling or your neighbour who saved someone from a fire for example. About the famous myth: the American Dream, I think is still remains and it's just up to us to realise it in order to make our dreams come true.
