Charles Dickens was born in Portsmouth in 1812. His father plays an important role in the youth of Charles Dickens. He was only twelve years old when his family had to go to prison for debts. The child had to work in a factory. Dickens was traumatized by the childish humiliations to the point of not giving his autobiography to his publishers as he had promised. After his legacy, he continued his studies, learned shorthand and became a solicitor's clerk.
